I was looking through some old storyboards I did for school. And I came across an Beer commercial that involved dancing. I remembered how fun it was to draw it and decided, in honor of that board, to draw dancing gestures all this week. Get cha’ boogie on.

For the most part this week I’ve been drawing from sport photos. I switched from pen to pencil and decided to focus on my line quality. Then hairy lines need fixing. Also did a few studies for an illustration that may or may not be illustrated but good practice none the less.

Day 6

The aforementioned studies.

Day 7

Boxing

Day 8

Basketball and some hockey girls.

Day 9

Randomness.

Day 10

MMA

A few months ago, I started a series on the called ‘Art Mission’ and if you’ve been following then you are fully aware of my “50 Days, 50 Cars” series. Well, I’ve got a new mission.

You see,  I don’t draw people enough. And when I do, things just don’t seem to flow well as far as my figures are concerns. To rectify this, I’ve decided to do something that I haven’t done regularly since sophomore year in art school. Draw gestures. I figured I’d do at least 50 a week in order to get into the habit of drawing people.

And got I got a friend to tag along with me this time around. Her name is Elisha, she a fine artist who born & bred in Illinois. As well as a fellow alum and partner in crime. I urge you to check out her at blog.limitedpalette.com.

Day 1

I used my thumbing pen (A pen I use mostly for thumbnails). It obvious I’m rusty.

Day 2

Still a bit rusty but starting to get the hang of running.

Day 3

Finally got the hang of gesturing mainly because I zoomed in on my references.

Day 4

I decide to branch out into people of different sizes and gender.

Day 5

More running.

Why did I only focus on running? Because I can draw people sitting and standing without reference. If I had to draw them moving…I’m out of luck. So expect a few more motion focused gestures.
